Better Questions

One:One conversations can be so much more than chitchat, or the standard “get to know you” Q&A. Take a risk! Ask a better question, and see if you get a better answer!

Be prepared, of course, to be asked terrific questions in return. A good One:One is a mutual, equitable exchange of dialogue.

Don’t try to answer all these questions. Pick out one or two that interest you and see where the conversation goes from there!

• Tell me about the first time you stood up for something you believed in. Why that, and why then?

• Tell me about your favorite place on earth. How do you feel when you’re there?

• Tell me about a time you failed spectacularly. What did you do to recover?

• What are you proudest of in your life up till now?

• Do you have an unpopular opinion you could share with me? Why do you go against the grain on that one?

• Has there been a season of your life when your faith has gotten to its lowest point? What did you do about it, if anything?

• Has there been a season of your life when your faith has gotten to its highest point? How does it help you, if it does?

• Who would you say have been your greatest influences for how you make decisions every day?

• If you were in serious trouble, who are the top three people you would call? Why those? Have you ever needed to call them?

• Who has you on their “call in case of emergency” list? Have they ever called you?

• How are you feeling about the state of the world right now? What are the signs that things are going well or not so well?
